Tremors from the devastating Great Sichuan Earthquake on May 12th took about eight minutes to reach Taiwan, where they continued for one to two minutes. A tourist in the indoor observation deck was recording a video of Taipei 101's tuned mass damper during those two minutes and caught the TMD moving... a lot. My first and only viewing of the TMD took place in October 2005, at the time it looked so massive I couldn't fathom how any external force could make it move. Well, now I know...
Jason also visited the tower recently and brought back a card model that drove me batty. I still haven't completed because it turned out to be a PITA. I don't ever remember my models in studio being so difficult to build. There are a ton of curved areas where the paper was scored the wrong way so getting points to match up has been a trying experience. I'll complete it... in time.
