My roommate has rendered our multiuse pot unusable. I just bought two dozen eggs yesterday in hopes of boiling eggs for breakfast. Guess I'll be sticking to my cereal for the rest of the week. Would any of you CMU engineers like to lend a hand? I told him to just heat the pot up to expand the perimeter... but then I remembered some old mind teaser about what happens to a hole in a metal sheet when you heat it up. It's supposed to get smaller, so would it not work?

i'd say sacrifice the plate and crack it. the loss of one plate is better than the lost use of both plate and pot.

if i did it, dc would've outted my name immediately. such is the viciousness of our rivalry.
Is this problem solved yet?... simple solution: bust out your vaseline and apply generously then use a suction cup to pull the plate out, actualy forget the vaseline it might not be needed
the hole in the sheet is different from this problem. Heating up should work.
