Riffraff, words that haunt.
Sitting in Borders earlier today, my mind wandered when I became frustrated with a design project for work that wasn't going anywhere. My attention ended up focusing on a conversation occuring to my left. During the course of this semi-interesting conversation, one of the parties obviously anti-Bush, used a word, Greek in origin to define the administration as one run by unqualified individuals. I've been unable to find that word, something along the lines of 'kratacracy', the closest thing I found was 'krytocracy', a government ruled by judges. For a while I thought he made the word up, craptocracy perhaps? 2 e-Props to anyone who can shed light on this word.

Failing to spell or recall the word correctly, it brings me to this particular day in 6th grade. At the fabled De Soto School, P.S. 130, in Little Italy. On a whim I entered my school's spelling bee championship and somehow won. Luck really, but it didn't follow me to the city-wide championship a week later. No, on a day my class went to go see Disney's Aladdin, I was stuck in some foreign room, getting up one at a time to spell words I never heard of. And isn't this funny, that the word that ended up knocking me out of the contest was one used in the movie? Riffraff, street rat, I don't buy that... yeah, I messed up. I heard riff-raft. And spelled it as so. Thought it was some type of boat. And so my 6 minutes of fame came and went, glory never to be achieved. My life has been a downward spiral ever since.

Who knows, if I had won that spelling bee, perhaps life would be much different right now. I could have been on Wheel of Fortune, signed some endorsement deals. I could have been somebody damnit!

in 3rd grade i came in 12th for the city wide spelling bee. i got eliminated on the word "shepherd". in 6th grade, i lost because of the word "hindsight", because i thought the judge person said "heinsight". not that i knew what either or those words meant at that time.

Won the class in 5th grade and then proceeded to screw up my first word in front of the school. But I can't remember the word! Only remember it was stupid, much easier than "riffraff" or "hindsight." Thanks a lot, now I'm going to be up until I remember it...

though i don't care much for 'wheel of fortune', i still have aspirations of one day making it on jeopardy. i was never a good speller anyways. (i had to google to make sure i spelled 'jeopardy' right.)
