Lancers '04 Individual State Tournament
And so it begins... the state tournament. The Districts occurred this weekend, the first step of a state tournament run. Next will come the Regions followed by AC (the super-regions used to take place before the state tournament but they integrated it with the last leg down in Atlantic City now). It's a nerve-racking and an exciting time for all wrestlers and fans alike so to keep myself sane and organized, I'll post all news regarding the tournament in this post.

Donohue, Mattia, Greco capture district crowns (District 14) Aside from Donohue's 4th District crown (I used to wrestle with his older brother, feeling old, very old) my team advanced 11 wrestlers to Region 4 (the next leg), including 6 District champs and one runner up.

Also caught the District finals of the Lehigh Valley area yesterday. For those of you not in the know, this area is a national powerhouse for wrestling (that's where Jake is from) Pennsylvania has the most nationally individually ranked wrestlers and teams with most of them hailing from this district. Easton seems to be weak this year but Nazareth looked strong. Exciting times...

Update 1: "Livingston the District 14 team champion, had three winners last night in Pat Nann (112), Steve McDermott (125) and Ken Goldfarb (160) and will send nine to the quarterfinals. Mike Spiesbach (103), Rich Russell (119), Jerry Eagan (130), Mike Donahue (152), Jacob Devlin (189) and Stuck Joseph (215) all had byes last night." Gleicher lost at 140lbs. 8-4, and Kavourakis lost at 145lbs. 2-1.

Update 2: "Livingston produced two champions, with Jacob Devlin (189) and Stuck Joseph (275). Devlin (28-2) needed just 53 seconds to pin Craig Sutera in the final, rolling over an attempted double to gain the fall. Joseph (28-1) defeated Kearny's Danny Manley, 8-2. I always prepare for six minutes, Joseph said. Last year, I let up for a second in the championship bout here and it cost me. This year, I wasn't making that same mistake."

Update 3: "Essex County wrestlers garnered eight gold medals. Overall, 22 Essex wrestlers from Region 4 advanced to the state tournament. Livingston had five wrestlers qualify for the states, including champions Jacob Devlin (189) and Stuck Joseph (275)."

Update 4: Stuck Joseph lost to Shaun Wilbert 8-5 in their fifth place match. It's okay, Stuck's only a sophomore, there is still time.
